Ryan Laughlin


Senior Pastor

Ryan was born and raised in the suburbs of Washington D.C., the same city in which, many years later, he would meet his wife, Heather. In 1995, Ryan graduated from West Point (June), was married to Heather (July), and headed to Fort Lewis, WA (August) to commence six years of service as an officer in the Army. In June 2001, they moved to St. Louis to attend Covenant Theological Seminary. After graduation in 2004, Ryan served as Assistant Pastor at McLean Presbyterian Church in Northern Virginia. In January 2007, Ryan accepted the call as the Senior Pastor of Covenant Presbyterian Church. Ryan and Heather have three boys, Nathan, Luke, and Zachary.

Chris Smith


Assistant Pastor of Discipleship & Outreach

Chris was born in Philadelphia, but grew up in central Indiana. After graduating from Purdue University in 1991 with a degree in Public Relations, he did youth ministry for a Presbyterian church in the Pittsburgh area. After Sonja finished at Purdue a year later, they married, and she joined Chris for another 4 years of ministry in Pittsburgh. In 1996, the Smiths moved to St. Louis for seminary. Chris graduated in 2000 with an M.Div and has had a broad range of ministry experience over the last 15 years, serving in both urban and suburban contexts, as an interim pastor and a church planter. In July 2016 Chris accepted a call as an Assistant Pastor of Covenant Presbyterian Church. Chris and Sonja have two girls, Abigail and Hannah Grace, two boys, Xander and Andrew, and one golden retriever, Riley.

John Roberts


Assistant Pastor, Head of School

John holds a B.S. in sociology and M.A. in urban and regional planning from the University of Iowa. In 1999 he received his M.Div from Covenant Theological Seminary and in 2013 John received his M.A. in Educational Leadership from Maryville University. John has been on staff at Covenant Presbyterian Church since 2001 and has worked primarily with the children of the church. In 2003 John led the effort to begin Covenant Christian School and has been Head of School since 2007. He and his wife, Julie, have four children, Johanna, Sam, Marta and Noah.

Greg Meyer


Assistant Pastor of Youth

Though an Air Force brat, Greg grew up primarily in Kennesaw, GA. During the end of high school, he came to faith in Jesus through the influence of his Christian school and his mom. After high school, he attended and graduated from Mercer University in Macon, GA, with a degree in Industrial Engineering. While at Mercer, Greg was involved in Reformed University Fellowship (RUF) and became connected with the PCA. After college, Greg worked as an engineer for the Air Force for two years. Greg is a graduate of Reformed Theological Seminary and served in youth ministry in both Georgia and Mississippi before coming to St. Louis. Greg is married to Mary Jane and they have three sons, Grey, Davis, and Whit. Greg enjoys basketball, playing guitar and singing, listening to music, walks in the park, reading, watching movies, Apple products, and wrestling with his sons.

Kelly Robinson


Director of Children's Ministries

Kelly was born and raised in St. Louis. She grew up in a loving Christian home, watching (and helping) her mother with the children’s program at church. Kelly attended Truman State University and went to work at Washington University in St. Louis, upon graduation. It was through a work conference that she met her husband, Kent. Kent and Kelly are the parents to three precious girls: Casey, Lauren, and Mia. Kelly has been actively involved with Covenant’s Children’s Ministry and Women’s Ministry since the family joined in February 2011. In her spare time, Kelly loves to read, travel, and play card and board games.

Mary Bell


Director of Women's Ministry and Community Life

Mary grew up in Anderson, SC. She attended Covenant College where she was a student leader for Reformed University Fellowship (RUF). After graduating, she served for a few years with Mission to the World in Nagoya, Japan. In 2010, Mary moved to St. Louis to attend Covenant Seminary part-time. She graduated in 2018 with a degree in Educational Ministries. When Mary is not spending time with her church family she is most likely hanging out with her family, neighbors, and friends. She enjoys traveling, her Border Collie Belle, teaching, meeting new people, cooking, watching shows about cooking, Forest Park, and spoiling her nephews and niece.

Pablo Rosales


Harris Pastoral Intern

Pablo was born and raised in NYC. He served in the NYPD for 11 years. During this time, he met his wife, Mary, as well as his Lord, Jesus (a long story, which he is glad to share). In 2015, after taking classes online and at John Jay Community College, he completed a B.S. in Sociology from Nyack College. The following year, he, Mary, and their four children, Azalea, Elijah, Calvin, and Jeanne, moved to St. Louis to attend Covenant Seminary. He is currently in his third year of the M.Div program. He enjoys playing and spending time with his kids, watching movies and shows with Mary, skateboarding, and woodworking (although he doesn't get around to this as much), and all things Yankees (although he will cheer for the Cards on occasion).

Katie Beim-Esche


Choir Director and Director of FFCS

Katie was born and raised in St. Louis. A lifelong musician, she studied vocal music education at Webster University and taught general elementary music in the Parkway School District for eight years. During this time she gained an interest in Aesthetic Education making this the focus of the final project for her Master’s program at Washington University. It was this study that God used to begin a season of complete transformation as she came to faith in Jesus Christ, was baptized, and then studied at Covenant Seminary receiving a MA in educational ministries. Alongside directing the choir, she serves as the founder and director of the Fellowship of Former Christian Scientists (FFCS) reaching out to people with a similar background to hers.

Sharon Canavan


Administrative Assistant

Sharon was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. She grew up in a Pastor’s family attending New Life churches in her early childhood and teen years. In her twenties she began attending Liberti Fairmount in Philadelphia, where she enjoyed serving the Lord through singing on the Worship Team. She has a degree in Interior Design and worked in the commercial furniture industry while living in Philadelphia. Before getting her degree, she worked at Tenth Presbyterian Church as an administrative assistant where she met her husband, John. They were married in 2012. John and Sharon moved to St. Louis in 2014 for John to attend Covenant Seminary.

Maggie Blow


Admin. Assistant & Children's Ministry Intern

Maggie was born and raised in Atlanta, GA. In 2014, she graduated with a degree in history and classics from Samford University in Birmingham, AL. Maggie was highly involved in Reformed University Fellowship (RUF) during her time at Samford, and RUF was extremely influential in her journey as a believer. It was at Samford University that she met her husband, Caleb, and they got married in 2015. After college she worked in museum education, leading tour groups and developing programs and curriculum. She and Caleb moved to St. Louis in June 2017 for Caleb to attend Covenant Seminary. Maggie enjoys reading, being outside, making jewelry, playing games, and spending quality time with people.

Nancy Walker



Nancy grew up in Greenville, IL and graduated from the University of Illinois with a B.S. in Accountancy. She began her career in the St. Louis office of Price Waterhouse, practicing in the areas of public audit, due diligence, dispute analysis and corporate recovery. After four years with PW, during which she became a Certified Public Accountant, she went to work for a PW colleague as a senior financial analyst at Bridge Information Systems. After having children, Nancy stayed home with her three boys Nicholas, Gabriel, and Jeremiah. She began working for Covenant Christian School several years ago as bookkeeper, and currently works for Covenant Church in a similar capacity.

Lois Miller


Bulletin Coordinator

Lois has been part of the Covenant Church staff since 1999. Originally from Ohio, Lois has lived in the Midwest, New England, and the South - her introduction to living cross-culturally! Living in metro St. Louis with its diversity of people has been a good reminder that God is bigger than her particular perspective. Lois and her husband, Jim, are parents to two grown children, Tasha and Lendal.

Ben Collison


Property Manager

Growing up in St. Louis, Ben started attending Covenant Church when his family moved churches in 1992, although his first exposure to Covenant was attending Covenant Christian School in his elementary years. He went on to receive a B.A. in Natural Science from Covenant College and taught at Westminster Christian Academy for 7 years before starting his own construction business in 2007. In 2010, he started working at Covenant Church as the property manager. He and his wife, Shauna, have been married since 2002, and have four children: three boys, Tyler, Caden, Krew, and one girl, Campbell.

Stephen Collison


Part-Time Facilities

Stephen was born in St. Louis in 1982. He started at Covenant Christian School in the second grade. After graduating from Missouri Military Academy he joined the Army as a Heavy Construction Equipment Operator. In 2013, he went to Ranken Technical College where he graduated with a degree in Industrial Technology. Stephen enjoys tinkering with his truck, hiking in the woods, and reading.

Ben Sheldon


Part-Time Facilities

Ben is from Ocean City, NJ and is a first year M.Div student at Covenant Seminary. A graduate of Gordon College ('09), Ben served as a Marine Officer for 7.5 years. He and his wife, Alison, have three children: Johnny, Mackie, and Ruthie.
